Big news for our UW Members: Your Bargaining Team has been actively negotiating a revised Collective Agreement over the past year. The team is now prepared to recommend acceptance of the University’s offer and is calling a ratification vote.

The procedure for a ratification vote, implemented by the Board of Representatives, requires informational meetings to be held prior to the voting day. At these meetings the proposed contract will be explained and Bargaining Team representatives will be available for questions.

Please take the time to attend either one of the following AESES member informational sessions, which are scheduled as follows:

  • Tuesday, July 5, 2016                      12:00-1:00pm                     1L11 Lockhart Hall
  • Tuesday, July 5, 2016                      1:00-2:00pm                       1L11 Lockhart Hall

Voting day is Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Polls will be open between 9:00am and 3:30pm. Voting will take place in room 1C16A (Centennial Hall).
Please ensure you bring identification with you in order to cast your ballot (ex. AESES membership card, university picture identification, driver’s license); members without appropriate identification will not be permitted to vote.

If you will not be at work on voting day, you may vote in advance. Please contact the AESES Business Office by telephone (204-949-5200) no later than Tuesday, June 28, 2016, to make the appropriate arrangements for advance voting.

* In order to see the proposed offer, please ensure you have access to our secure union members’ only log-in section, where it is posted.

With AESES continuing to meet regularly with The University of Winnipeg, the bargaining teams have now worked through the majority of non-monetary issues. Many beneficial discussions have taken place, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the interests important to both sides. The teams are now working through the monetary items, which is likely to take several more weeks. Though we are nearing the one year mark past the expiry date of the current Collective Agreement, negotiations are continuing in good faith and there will be no detrimental effect to our members.

Once we have a contract offer to present to the membership, information meetings will be scheduled to review the details in advance of a ratification vote.

December 18, 2015

The bargaining teams from AESES and UW have continued to meet on a weekly basis through the fall months, making significant progress in working through the items that were initially presented. The majority of the non-monetary issues have now been resolved and both sides are preparing to proceed to the discussion of monetary items on our return from the University’s Christmas/New Year’s closure.

Our teams will continue to work together in a spirit of cooperation to arrive at a finalized Collective Agreement using the Interest-Based Method of Negotiation. Once the conversations wrap up and we have a contract offer to present to the membership, information meetings will be scheduled to review the details in advance of a ratification vote. We will keep you informed with email updates and information via our website and social media.

With the knowledge that the current Collective Agreement is set to expire at the end of this month, the AESES-UW Negotiation Committee began to meet on a weekly basis during the fall months. The team of 12 committee members reviewed the results of the online survey which was distributed via email to AESES members. The team also reviewed all the proposals that were submitted directly by AESES-UW members for consideration and any proposals stemming from the AESES Business Office.

Negotiation Committee members included:

  • Ghislaine Alleyne (CTLT)
  • Tanya Anania (Technology Solutions Centre – Client Services)
  • Eric Benson (Registrar-Graduate Studies)
  • Pam Delorme (Biology)
  • Joan Duesterdiek (Technology Solutions Centre – Technology Infrastructure)

Thank you to these individuals for the many volunteer hours and lunches they gave up to ensure that all of our AESES member concerns were fairly reviewed and considered.

Since then, a Bargaining Team has been struck for the next stage of the process, which has involved preparing the proposals as issues and interests to be submitted during the eventual bargaining process with the university.

The AESES-UW Bargaining Team members include:

  • Eric Benson (Registrar – Graduate Studies)
  • Joan Duesterdiek (Technology Solutions Centre – Technology Infrastructure)
  • Jacqueline Mikolash (Library Reference Services)
