CCU/CSC Membership
In December 2016, AESES’ Board of Representatives approved an affiliation with the Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU/CSC). After 43 years as an independent union with no ties or affiliations to other labour organizations, AESES realized that we were at a point in time where we could no longer remain independent and survive in the current political climate and the increasing corporatization of our universities.
With the CCU/CSC we are able to retain our autonomy and not be directed as to how we choose to run our union, while still being able to connect with other independent unions across Canada. We can learn from their experiences and share our own, stand united together as a national body to lobby against federal and provincial legislation meant to target and attack unions, educate our membership on the value of unions, and so much more.

September 2022 – CCU/CSC 2022 Bursary Announcement
The Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU/CSC) provides annual bursaries of $1000 for dependent children of members of unions belonging to the CCU/CSC to further their post-secondary education.
The 2022 CCU/CSC Bursary application for the John St-Amand Bursary and Madeleine Parent Bursary is now available online. Visit ccu-csc.ca/ccu-csc-john-st-amand-madeleine-parent-2022-bursary-notice for more information and to apply.
The deadline for submitting the bursary application is Monday, October 3, 2022.

- Letter from CCU/CSC President Kelly Johnson: Thank God It’s Thursday: CCU/CSC Letter on a Condensed, Four-Day Workweek urges every premier in the country to reform the labour laws in their province to move to a condensed, four-day workweek. There is a large amount of research going back decades illustrating that the traditional five-day workweek is actually detrimental to our mental and physical health, and results in high stress levels, fatigue, low motivation and job satisfaction, poor sleep and higher rates of cardiovascular disease. Add the COVID-19 health crisis to this, and the reduced contact time from a condensed, four-day workweek will literally become a lifesaver for potentially tens of thousands of Canadians.
- Letter from CCU/CSC President Kelly Johnson: COVID Era To-Do List #6,584: Raise the Minimum Wage, was sent to the premiers of the provinces that have yet to raise minimum wage to $15. Even during “normal times” before COVID, minimum wage workers already struggled to pay the rent, afford pharmaceutical medicines, put food on the table, and pay for other necessities. Now with COVID, all this has become enormously more difficult. Now’s the time to move on this issue and ensure that low-wage workers earning less than $15 per hour won’t be left behind. Minimum wage workers have waited long enough.
- C-262 and the Implementation the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, UNDRIP. Bill C-262 requires the federal government to make good on its promises to fully implement the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission called the UN Declaration “the framework” for reconciliation. Amnesty believes Bill C-262 is an essential tool for ensuring that future governments will move ahead with the work of actually implementing the Declaration. It is vital that Senators work together to ensure that C-262 is brought to a vote. CCU/CSC asks all its affiliates and their membership to consider signing the petition to encourage all Senators to move ahead with the crucial work of reconciliation.
