The AESES Education Committee would like to offer members seven seminars to help you thaw into spring!

All seminars are delivered in-person unless otherwise noted (Virtual) and have limited capacity. Waitlists will be available if necessary.

While we anticipate offering all seminars listed, details and times are subject to change and availability.

These seminars are for AESES signed members* and a guest (limit of one guest per member, per seminar). Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, with your completed registration form and payment (if required).

Self Defence Workshop | Sun., April 16, 2:00 – 4:00 pm

An introduction and warm-up will be provided by the coach and assistant coach. The participants will work through striking, basic jiu-jitsu, practical escape situations, controlling a larger person and submission holds with time allotted for questions and answers at the end.

The Leaf Guided Walking Tour (Members Only) | Wed., April 26, 7:00 – 8:00 pm

Register to enjoy this member-only guided tour. The Leaf is an indoor horticultural attraction at Assiniboine Park where visitors can walk through four distinct biomes; the Hartley and Heather Richardson Tropical Biome, Mediterranean Biome, Babs Asper Display House, and the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden. Experience a stunning showcase of our diversity, expressed through plants that shape our lives here and across the globe. Please consider wearing light clothing as the biomes can get warm. This is a member-only event, no guests are allowed on the tour.

Learn Basic Bicycle Maintenance | Wed., May 3, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Learn about bicycle maintenance that you can do on your own from this seminar. We will have an in-person demonstration of what can be done including a tool list to accomplish the job easily. Our instructor will identify bike parts, talk about some accessories, important tools to have and demonstrate a flat repair. Bring your bike and tools along for a quick look-over by the instructor.

Bannock Making Tutorial and History | Thu., May 18, 7:00 – 8:30 pm

Gather with this group to make your own Bannock at this seminar. While you learn to make this delicious Bannock you will also be taught about its significance and history of it.  A list of ingredients will be provided to participants, but they will be supplied for the seminar.

Crock-a-doodle: Bowl Making/Painting | Sat., May 27, 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Pick and paint your choice of a ceramic cereal bowl from the two options available. Crock-a-doodle will then fire the pieces and have them ready for pick-up approximately two weeks later for you to bring home and enjoy.

Home Buying & Selling in Manitoba | Thu., June 1, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Are you considering buying or selling a home? This seminar will highlight some important things to consider, such as: staying within budget and your financial stress, lawyer fees, mortgage rates and the importance of pre-approvals. Other ideas that will be discussed are old vs. new, renting vs. buying and a stand-alone home vs. a condominium. Join this seminar to get some answers to your questions.

*Please note that as of 2018, AESES implemented a policy that requires members to be signed as union members to participate in our education seminars. If you are not yet signed (or not sure) but are interested in attending, contact the AESES Business Office, and we can check and provide you with a membership form if needed.

Did you know

AESES is affiliated with the Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU).

AESES' Charter Meeting was held in December of 1972.

We offer scholarships for AESES dependants at both universities.

Anyone can attend a Board meeting by calling the AESES Business Office prior to the meeting and confirming their attendance.

AESES requires new volunteers for various committees. Please contact the Business Office if you are an AESES member interested in joining one of our committees.
