Help Shape the Future of AESES Member Communications

Friday, March 15th, 2024

AESES is looking to improve their communications with members. To help us do this, we need to know more about you, our members. Your feedback is valuable to ensure we use the most effective channels to engage with you. As a thank you, after submitting the survey, you have the option to enter a draw for a chance to win an AESES-branded laptop backpack.

A link to a survey was sent to members on March 15. If you didn’t receive it, please send an email to jpothe@aeses.ca to request it. The survey closes on April 15, 2024.

Thanks for your help in shaping the future of AESES member communications!

AESES Celebrates International Women’s Day

Friday, March 8th, 2024

March 8, the world is celebrating International Women’s Day. This day showcases women, girls, and female-identifying persons’ contributions and highlights the progress toward gender equality.

The international theme for 2024 is “Inspire Inclusion.” When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.

AESES celebrates and supports the contributions of women and female-identifying persons’ in our membership, the workforce and ongoing labour movements. They are standing up for improved working conditions, equal pay, increased gender equality, and making their voices heard! Separately, we are strong, but together we are stronger.

Happy International Women's Day!

Thanks to You, We Raised $1,800 for St. Boniface Street Links!

Monday, February 26th, 2024

Thank you!

Team AESES, a strong group of seven, took part in the February 24th fundraising walk and thanks to all of the supporters, raised $1,800 for St. Boniface Street Links. This eclipsed our 2023 total of $1,200. The “Coldest Night of the Year” was unseasonably warm, so the 5km walk around St. Boniface was delightful! We’ll see you next year, February 22, 2025!

There is still time if you want to give your support, donations are being collected till March 31, 2024.

The Coldest Night of the Year has raised over $13.4 Million Canada-wide!

International Women’s Day – March 8, 2023, Embracing Equity

Wednesday, March 8th, 2023

Today is a worldwide day to recognize and celebrate women’s and girls’ social, economic, cultural and political achievements, but it is also a time to raise awareness of the progress made toward achieving equality and the work that still needs to be done.

Did you know that International Women’s Day (IWD) dates back to the early 20th century?

The first IWD took place on March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland when over a million men and women attended public events to show their support for women’s equal participation in society. Other countries joined in the following years.

The United Nations declared March 8, 1975, as International Women’s Day and it has been celebrated that day since.

AESES has participated in many different events over the years including dinners with the University of Manitoba’s President’s Office and guest speakers, trivia day and our last event held on March 8, 2020, with Leanne Shumka’s presentation on the topic of “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Female Canadian Labour Organizers.”

Celebrate today with your co-workers, mothers, daughters, and friends as we continue to embrace equity.

In Solidarity,

Gloria Saindon
Executive VP AESES
